Genealogy

Lorenz Braren (1886-1953) made genealogic records of the members of his parish, St. Laurentii, dating back to the early 17th century. Those records were published as Geschlechter-Reihen St. Laurentii-Föhr in 1950. Since then, two additional volumes have been published by Johann Lorenzen and Brar C. Roeloffs. The records do now reach until 1997 and provide many detailed biographies as well.

In 2006, the Ferring Foundation published a work by Harro Nötel, the Geschlechterreihen St. Johannis-Föhr, which contains the genealogic records of the parish St. Johannis from 1600 to 1900.

Martin Rheinheimer published records of the neighbouring island Amrum in 2010. His Geschlechterreihen der Insel Amrum date from 1694 to 1918.

The records of the third parish on Föhr, St. Nicolai, have yet to be completed. A handwritten but uncomplete manuscript exists; the date of its publication remains uncertain.

Many of the people documented within these genealogical records can also be found in our photographic archive.
